Hobbies

Dear University Tutor, I am writing to apply for the SAT test prep position with your company. I am currently a full time Physical Education and Health teacher at Blue Hills Regional Vocational Technical High School in Canton where I also coach Basketball and Softball. Before Blue Hills, I spent as year a full time Physical Education teacher at Wareham High School where I also coached Basketball and Softball. I received my Bachelor’s degree in Education with a focus on Sport Administration and Exercise Science and am working towards my Master’s degree in Education from Cambridge College with an expected graduation date of December 2014. As an enthusiastic, driven, and supportive teaching professional, I am confident in my ability to become a valuable member of your team. My enclosed resume highlights my experience and desire to promote strong sportsmanship and a healthy lifestyle. My tenure at Wareham High School afforded me experience in working with large class sizes ranging from 22-40 students per class, and severe discipline issues. I was responsible for planning and teaching 3 Physical Education classes for grades 9-10, 2 Competitive Team Sports classes for grades 11-12, and 1 Fitness class for grades 11-12. Having taught many students on IEP and 504 plans, I am confident in my ability to modify lessons to accommodate those of all physical abilities and cognitive levels. At both Blue Hills and Wareham I coached basketball and softball, and served as part of the NEASC accreditation committees. Throughout my experience as an educator and coach, I have had the opportunity to work with a wide variety of students and I feel confident in my ability to assess each student’s needs and tailor lesson plans accordingly. My ability to relate to students of all different levels and backgrounds will make me an asset to your school. I encourage student learning by making lesson plans as exciting and game-like as possible while reinforcing the importance of physical fitness and promoting active participation, teamwork, organization, and strategy. Being a member of the Varsity Crew team at the University of Miami taught me discipline, management, and most importantly teamwork – skills that I value and carry with me today. Collegiate rowing also afforded me the opportunity to gain experience as a coach at the Miami Beach Rowing Club where I taught youth and novice rowers. In addition to this experience, I have eight years experience as a camp counselor for the Newburyport Youth Girls Basketball League and have helped coach many youth Field Hockey camps. As a student teacher and coach, I have experienced how certain environments can provide for growth and learning. Over the years I have enjoyed witnessing and enabling such growth. I have witnessed students, athletes and campers overcome their fears and insecurities while learning communication and cooperation skills they can take with them to the real world. For me, that is where true satisfaction comes from – knowing that the skills and experiences that have been provided to the students will last entire lifetimes. I have truly cherished these opportunities and would very much appreciate being considered for any coaching positions that may be available as well. I am certified to teach Physical Education in all grades Pre K-12 and Health Education in grades 5-12 as well as being certified in Lifeguarding, CPR, and First Aid. I also recently completed the Research for Better Teaching Skillful Teacher course. I have attached my resume, college transcripts, and Massachusetts Department of Education License along with three letters of recommendation. I am certain that my enthusiasm, along with my abilities in education and coaching will make me an asset to your school. I would appreciate the opportunity to speak with you about this position and my potential contribution. Thank you for your consideration. Sincerely, Katherine Sullivan
